A day out Empty A day out

Post by Rainbow Sun Jun 06, 2010 10:34 pm

After a full day of rain yesterday and the forecast looking much better for today, we decided to hang the housework and take the boat out...
It has been too long between fish.

Got up at a reasonable hour (7.30 not that keen on an early start), and pottered around a bit. No sign of rain on the radar, and all wind forecasts favourable still [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Russ hooked up the boatand moved it out of its overgrown hidey hole only to find a flat tyre on the trailer... not a good start.
Changed it for the spare, put some air in it, to find a faulty valve that then let all air out of it [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Thank goodnes for kids bike tyre tubes and green slime... there just happened to be a valve tool on one of the kids bike tyres, so it was used to remove and swap the tyre valves... except the valve in the old tyre disintegrated as it was removed [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] replaced the original valve, only to have it working fine now... Phew, must have just been some grit in there...
Made sure the compressor was packed in the back of the car, and made a decision to go and buy 4 new tyres for the boat trailer next week [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

OK, so now we are mobile and head down to the boatramp.
Uneventful launch... as always... I am a really good Deckie ... just ask Russ [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

We puttered out of the harbour with Lewis telling us we were all Pirates on our Pirate ship because he was wearing a t-shirt with skulls printed on it and Mum was wearing a bandanna like a pirate [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Aaaarrgh...

So we headed North to Beijaling Shoals, grounds we have not covered before.
We have a few marks in the GPS that locals have shared over the years, so we visited each of them along the way,but not finding anything noteworthy.
Lewis pulled up a few 20-30cm Blue Lined Emperor, nothing but pickers on any of these lumps/holes.

We had decided that this was going to just be a relaxing day exploring areas we had never been, so we moved along continuing north looking for anything of interest.
Covered a lot of very flat featureless ground so decided to head a bit closer to shore.
Ran accross an interesting looking lump, stopped motor, and dropped lines.
Within 30seconds both Russ and I had hooked onto an angry fish each [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Pulled them in and found ourselves with twin Pinkys each at 45cm... Pan sized and legal [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

By the time we had them Ikki'd and in the esky we had drifted off the spot...
Russ had turned off the Navigation feature on the GPS and didnt 'ping' when we stopped, so no chance of tracing our tracks... 10 minutes of driving round in circles found us nothing

Oh Well... plenty more ground to cover.
We pent the rest of the day driving around, zig zagging along the coast far and wide, all the way up to Fitzroy Reefs.
Found a few lumps and drop offs, but not able to pull anything over the side.

Matters not.

We had a great day out on the water, we have 2 fish that will make for a hearty meal [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] and we covered some really good ground that will be worth going back to for a closer look [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Hope everyone else has had a good long weekend too [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Talking of Pirates. Back when we lived in the house on the Fascine, Michael was about 4 or 5. He was convinced that the land on the other side was a pirate's island and begged me at least twice every week to go over there so we could find the treasure and dig it up.

One day, there was a yacht moored further down near that little jetty, and, of course, it was flying a real live pirate's flag - black and with white skull and crossbones.

I had no hope of convincing Michael after that, so we dutifully trotted across the railway bridge every so often, and scrabbled in the sand, but nary a treasure to behold....

Glad to hear you had a good day and caught some treasures of your own, Pirate Tam!

LOL Nez... have just discussed the idea of doing up the cabin on the boat with some Pirate wall stickers... Red Dot have some for about $2 a sheet....
Hubby reckons we should go one further and give him a pirate hat and sword to kepp on the boat too...
We have a Jolly Roger flag here too... maybe that could find it's way onto the boat too.....
nahhhh... no flagpole [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
