Finally - got the boat wet

Lester and I went out on Sunday - headed wide of GI to explore some new ground which I had figured was out that way.

Turned out that feeling was spot on with Lester getting a really nice metro dhuie, we also caught and successfully returned 5 undersized dhuies thanks to slow retrieve rates and use of a release weight.

The prize of the day apart from Lester's fish were three absobloodylootely humungous black arse, stunning fish and all of them were bigger than I have ever caught before - we actually called each one as a dhuie due to the initial dogged fight which quickly reduced as we gained line

Boat ran perfectly hitting 32 knots across the Sound before we took a detour to rescue a little tinny with father and young son aboard - 5 knots from then on to the ramp and, for a change, people at the public ramp were courteous and allowed us to drop off our "charges"whilst all stayed well clear as we dropped them off

Sounds like a nice day out.
good to see the release weight at work.

Well where can you get tags as I would love to try - was involved in the sambo tagging project and that was really satisfying - mind you the shark eggregations that now follow the sambo's are a real concern - they would never get them unless hooked to a fisherman

I don't think you can get tags for jewies yet. logbooks would be good.
I have written a lot on the subject but thats not why I am on this site. I come here to get away from the politics. i tried that line and it didn't work.

I think we have stumbled on to the secret of getting good fish ....forget to bring the camera. everytime we bring it we get rubbish fish, when we forget we have a great day.



Surprised at the lack of boats out, although by all reports there were lots at Rotto in amongst all the salmon.
